Shortlist announced for 2012 Deutsche Börse Photography Prize

The Deutsche Börse Photography Prize is awarded annually to a photographer of any nationality who has made a significant contribution (in either exhibition or publication format) to European photography within the past year.  The 2012 finalists for the £30,000 prize are:

PIETER HUGO

Pieter Hugo, 'Abdulai Yahaya', from the series 'Permanent Error', 2011

Hugo (b.1976, South-Africa) is nominated for his publication Permanent Error, published by Prestel.

RINKO KAWAUCHI

Rinko Kawauchi, 'Untitled' from the series 'Illuminance'

Kawauchi (b.1972, Japan) is nominated for her publication Illuminance, published by Kehrer.

JOHN STEZAKER

John Stezaker, 'Untitled', 2011

Stezaker (b.1949, UK) is nominated for his exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery, London.

CHRISTOPHER WILLIAMS

Christopher Williams, 'Bergische Bauernscheune, Junkersholz, Leichlingen September 29th 2009'

Williams (b. 1956, USA) is nominated for his exhibition Kapitalistischer Realismus at Dùm umìní České Budìjovice, Budweis, Czech Republic.

The winner will be announced next Summer, following an exhibition of selected works by the shortlisted photographers at The Photographers’ Gallery in London.

The 2010 Deutsche Börse Photography Prize is on display at The Photographers’ Gallery, London from 12 February – 18 April 2010.

The winner will be announced on 17 March 2010.
