A gentle reminder

The video above made by New York artist¬†Dennis Palazzolo and written by¬†Timothy Furstnau¬†has been floating around for some time now (since 2000 in fact) and is still one of my favourites. ¬†It’s sometimes mistaken for a work made by legendary performance artist¬†Vito Acconci, who provided the film’s voice-over in the guise of the MGM lion. ¬†Acconci is an interesting choice of narrator, given his penchant for found poetry, in which the arrangement of words supercedes their meaning. ¬†Here, Palazzolo’s text is key and the message is strong – love life, because one day you’re going to die.
