Guggenheim announces shortlist for YouTube Play Biennial


The Guggenheim received over 23,000 submissions for their forthcoming YouTube Play Biennial.¬† 100 of these entries have now been short-listed and you can view them on the Play Biennial channel on YouTube here. ¬†From what Leg of Lamb has seen, the pickings are slim. ¬†Unless of course you’re partial to musings on humanity that closely resemble ads for health insurance (above). ¬†A ¬†final 20 works selected by the jury will be exhibited at¬†the Guggenheim, New York from October 22.

Jury announced for Guggenheim’s YouTube Play Biennial


The Guggenheim Museum and YouTube have¬†joined forces¬†to create the first YouTube Play¬†biennial, an open submission initiative¬†that aims to ‘unearth and showcase the very best creative video from around the world’.¬† Entries closed yesterday and now it’s up to the jury to decide which twenty works (there have been well¬†over 6,000 entries) will feature¬†in the¬†biennial, that opens at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York on October 1.

The Guggenheim has roped in a star-powered group of jurors including Douglas Gordon, Ryan McGinley, Shirin Neshat, Takashi Murakami, Laurie Anderson and the band Animal Collective.¬† Guggenheim Chief Curator and Deputy Director Nancy Spero is the chairperson.¬† Along with simultaneous viewings at the Guggenheims in Venice, Bilbao and Berlin, the winners’ work will be available to watch on the YouTube Play channel here.
