DCM to Design Australian Pavilion

Mock up of DCM's new Australia Pavilion

Denton Corker Marshall have been confirmed as the designers of Australia’s new Venice Biennale pavilion.  They’ll be replacing the Philip Cox designed structure that’s been in situ in the Giardini (though was only ever conceived of as temporary) since 1988.  DCM – whose previous projects include Melbourne Museum and the Museum of Sydney – were selected unanimously by the Australia Council for the Arts from a shortlist of six Australian firms.  Their pitched ‘white box within a black box’ structure (above) is due for completion in 2015, in time for the 56th Biennale.
