From the depths of Henderson, Auckland, Creative New Zealand has released photographs of Michael Parekowhai’s work bound for the Palazzo Loredan dell’Ambasciatore (New Zealand’s site at this year’s Venice Biennale).  The two bronze bull sculptures atop their piano plinths will flank the installation’s centrepiece, a carved Steinway piano entitled He Korero Purakau mo Te Awanui o Te Motu Story of a New Zealand River, that will be played regularly during the biennale.  Parekowhai says: “performance is central to understanding (the work) because music fills a space like no object can.”
