Shortlist announced for 2011 Deutsche Börse Photography Prize

Now in its 15th year, the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize is given annually to a photographer of any nationality who has made a significant contribution to European photography within the past year.  The finalists for 2011 are:

THOMAS DEMAND

Thomas Demand, 'Parlament (Parliament)', 2009

Demand (b. 1964, Germany) is nominated for his exhibition Nationalgalerie, at Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin.

ROE ETHRIDGE

Roe Ethridge, 'Thanksgiving 1984', 2009

Ethridge (b. 1969, US) is nominated for his solo exhibition at Les Recontres d’Arles Photography 2010, France.

JIM GOLDBERG

His radio is the sole possession that he took with him while escaping a rebel attack in his village. He now lives in a refugee camp with 60,000 other people where poverty, disease, and crime run rampant.

Goldberg (b. 1953, US) is nominated for his exhibition, Open See, at The Photographers’ Gallery, London

ELAD LASSRY

Elad Lassry, 'Lipstick', 2009

Lassry (b. 1977, Israel) is nominated for his exhibition Elad Lassry at Kunsthalle Zürich.

The winner will be announced on April 26, 2011.
