Traditionalists win at Versailles

'Kiki' by Takashi Murakami installed at Versailles

Takashi Murakami’s current retrospective at the Palace of Versailles will be the last exhibition of contemporary art in the apartments.  Despite Palace of Versailles Director Jean-Jacques Aillagon’s denials, it seems that the conservative protestors who resent the ‘Disneyfication’ of the grounds have got their way. Future art exhibitions (including a solo show by Maurizio Catellan in 2012) will be held in other areas of Versailles such as the Orangery or Royal Opera.
