Fairey Does The Stones

The Rolling Stones’ 50th anniversary logo, designed by Shepard Fairey

Following an invitation from Mick Jagger, street artist Shepard Fairey (the guy behind the ‘Obey’ giant and Obama ‘Hope’ poster) has created a logo to celebrate The Stones’ 50th (!) anniversary.  Fairey’s reworking of the 1971 John Pasche ‘tongue and lip’ design stays true to form but the typography’s a bit of a mess – featuring 5 different fonts in total.  Still, musos love him.  Fairey’s done stuff for bands like the Smashing Pumpkins and earlier this year created album artwork for Neil Young’s new album ‘Americana’ and a billboard memorial in honour of recently deceased Beastie Boy Adam Yauch.
